The Outlook of Alternative Fiber: Why Recycle Fiber and Non-Wood Pulp Play a more Important Role in China Paper and Tissue Industry

It is the first time a Chinese President said China should have less import of foreign scrap, last April Chinese President Xi Jinping signed a decree to ban trash imports and reform the solid waste import management system to protect the environment and improve people’s health, China also informed WTO the ban of 24 different types imports of solid waste that cause serious pollution, and then moves toward greater enforcement of regulations include setup 0.5% contamination limit of waste imported, that creates pressure for countries like United Kingdom, European Union, United States, Japan and Australia who have relied on China to process and reuse waste products like plastic and mixed paper for many years, to take responsibility for its own waste.

We will review the new efforts of china government to rebrand waste as a resource under the more radical environment policy framework, and as a unique case, to see how global market mechanisms and government regulation impact the role of waste fiber in China paper industry.

An estimation that recycled fibre import restrictions in China could impact about 10 million tons fiber deficit, some of industry players has already turn attention to non-wood fiber resources, that China maintained world leadership position, we will review the last developments of non-wood pulp projects include C&D’s new startup 250k tons bleached kraft bamboo pulp mill in West China, and the fresh impetus to promotes non-wood as new alternative fiber resources in china and globally.
